Bison Men participate in Presbyterian Monday in Daytona Beach

LEWISBURG, PA– After a tough four-point loss in Georgia on Friday night, the Bison men’s basketball team is now in Daytona Beach, Fla. for two games on Monday and Tuesday at the Greenlight Sunshine Slam presented by Discount Tire. Bucknell plays Presbyterian at 2 p.m. Monday at Ocean Center, then faces either UAlbany or Austin Peay on Tuesday. Both games can be seen on the FloHoops streaming platform.

Bucknell will play against a Presbyterian squad that has lost three straight games since the season opened with a win against Carolina University. The Blue Hose lost their Sunshine Slam Campus game at UAB on Wednesday, 92-61.

  • Bucknell travels to Daytona Beach with a 2-2 record after falling 65-61 in a Sunshine Slam campus game in Georgia on Friday night. The Bisons were never behind until the start of the second half, but then Georgia capitalized on a 17-2 run to secure a 55-41 lead with 8-12 to go. Bucknell fought back and locked in within two Andre screen Alley-oop finish eight seconds before the end. Justin Hill’s free throws with 5.9 seconds remaining secured the victory for Georgia.
  • Xander Rice scored a team-high 19 points in the second straight game and leads the team with 16.5 ppg. Rice is now shooting 50.0% from the field and 42.3% from 3-point range on the season.
  • Andre screen (13.8), Elvin Edmonds IV (10.8) and Alex Timmerman (10.3) also score double digits.
  • Bucknell came into the Georgia game as the third national team 3-point percentage with a straight 50.0%. However, bison were kept at 25.0% (5-20) in Georgia and now rank 13th nationally at 44.3%. Bucknell also fell from fifth to ninth in the nation in effective field goal percentage, falling from .655 to .615.
  • Bucknell shot 44.4% from field against Georgia, marking the first time under 50% this season.
  • The Bison limited the Bulldogs to 33.3% shots from the field, and in four games this season, opponents shot just 38.2%. That’s the highest grade in the Patriot League.
  • Bucknell also leads the Patriot League in goal defense (62.2), goal advantage (+16.0) and fewest turnovers per game (11.8).
  • Individually, Screen now leads the Patriot League in field goal percentage (.649) and Timmerman is #1 in free throw percentage (.875). Rice is fourth in the league at 16.5 ppg.
  • Bucknell won the only other meeting between these two teams that also ended in an MTE. In 2010/11 the Bison won 71-47 in a game played at James Madison as part of the CBE Classic. Darryl Shazier had 16 points and five assists to lead the Bison who would win the Patriot League championship that season.
  • After the Sunshine Slam, the Bison will play their next two at home, beginning with Marist on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Bison and red foxes meet for the first time since 2014.
