Walton 42, Buford 35: In the night’s shocker, Walton knocked off nationally ranked Buford 42-35. The loss ends a 22-game winning streak for Wolves and ends their hopes of winning a fourth straight state championship. The Raiders got a big night from junior quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski, who passed for 313 yards and four touchdowns. The Raiders travel to Carrollton for the Quarterfinals next week.
43 Mill Creek, 7 North Cobb: In the most dominant performance of the night in the AAAAAAA class, Mill Creek trotted to Kennesaw and dominated North Cobb in every facet of the game to win 43-7. The Hawks beat the Warriors 265-28 in the first half and extended a 36-0 lead at half-time. Cam Robinson and Caleb Downs each had two quick touchdowns in the win. The Hawks host Westlake in the quarterfinals next week.
49 Colquitt County, 28 Harrison: The Harrison Hoyas stayed tough against Colquitt County in the first half and were down by just two touchdowns at the break. But the Packers matched their first-half performance in the second half, driving to a 49-28 win to advance to the quarterfinals. Neko Fann threw two touchdown passes and lunged for another in the win. Ramsy Dennis and Charlie Pace also rushed for two touchdowns in the win. The Packers host North Gwinnett in next week’s quarterfinals.
Carollton 47, Marietta 14: Victory was never in question for Carrollton on Friday night. Leading 26-7 at halftime, the Trojans never looked back en route to a dominant 47-14 win over Marietta in the second round of the AAAAAAA state playoffs. Bryce Hicks rushed for three touchdowns and Julian Lewis threw two touchdown passes for the win. The Trojans will host Walton in next week’s quarterfinals.
Grayson, 28, Camden County, 10: After a 7-7 tie in the second quarter, Grayson ended the game on a 21-3 run to defeat Camden County 28-10 in the second round of the AAAAAAA playoffs on Friday night. Joseph Taylor rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Jeff Davis rushed for a score of his own in the win. The Rams also got a defensive touchdown in the first half. The Rams kept Camden scoreless in the second half after leading 14-10 at halftime. The Rams travel to Milton next Friday in the Quarterfinals.
Milton 30, Norcross 23: The Eagles used a 21-0 first-half run to build a huge lead, and that was all they needed to hold on to a 30-23 win over Norcross to advance to the AAAAAAA-class quarterfinals. The Eagles got a pick-six from Brayden Holmes and quarterback Luke Nickel was responsible for two touchdowns that night — a passing and a rushing. Scott Moskowitz also scored two touchdowns for the Eagles. With the win, the Eagles host Grayson in next week’s quarterfinals.
38 North Gwinnett, 35 Lambert: The Bulldogs led the Longhorns 24-7 in the first half before later finding themselves in a war. However, North Gwinnett was able to defend the victory with 38:35 and will play in the quarterfinals for the first time in three years. The Bulldogs received wounds from several different players, including Kayden McDonald, who had two touchdown runs. The Bulldogs will face Colquitt County in the quarterfinals next Friday.
Westsee 30, Parkblick 28: The Lions advance to the AAAAAAA Quarterfinals after beating Parkview 30-28 with a game-winning field goal 25 seconds from time. The Panthers appeared to take an 8-point lead late in the third quarter before a touchdown to hold was called back. The Lions trailed through the fourth quarter before winning the game with a 42-yard field goal from Omar Camara in the closing seconds. Quarterback RJ Johnson threw three touchdown passes in the win.
