Indiana’s popular online financial education website

Money with mak and g

Educounting was founded by Ben Jones 7 years ago to provide free financial education to people of all ages. The goal is to educate people about money and make the subject less taboo. From saving to investing and many things in between. The main goal is to give people tools to make better financial decisions so they can take control of their financial health by providing practical advice. The educounting website started with Ben’s desire and passion to teach finance and accounting based on his own mistakes and lack of access to solid, unbiased advice.

Recently, the Educounting website has been updated to a more modern look with an easily navigable interface to make it easier and faster than ever to get the information you need.

To paraphrase Ben Jones, “Nobody wants to worry about money. In fact, learning about money should be easy and fun for everyone. That’s why I started educounting with the aim of providing an understanding of how money works. It’s my passion. I was born and raised in Indiana. I have 4 brothers and 1 sister. My father grew up on a family farm where the formal education was secondary school, my mother insisted that we go to school and learn a trade. Growing up, we had little access to tools to understand how to manage money. I was personally motivated to understand everything I could about the subject. After years of study, I earned a couple of degrees and several qualifications (CPA, CFA®, CFP® and an MBA from the University of Chicago) that I wanted to share with those who, like me, wanted to know more.

I found my passion for teaching others through the Becker CPA Review program, where I was honored to be recognized as a top instructor helping others pass the exam. I have found that simple, straightforward financial education empowers people to make better financial decisions. I just wanted to share this knowledge with others, no matter what age.”

Ben Jones has two children, Grant and Makenna, who are twins. They are regular contributors to the Educounting website. Together they have produced hundreds of videos which can be seen on Educounting’s YouTube channel. While Ben Jones has covered various accounting and finance topics, Grant and Makenna have created well over 200 fun financial education videos and educational podcasts for kids. Her podcast is called Money with Mak and G, which continues to attract followers around the world.

They have been featured in various television segments, including Indiana’s own WTHR. Additionally, they have been highlighted in various well-known news publications including: Forbes, SLJ, Inside, Yahoo Finance, Gobankingrates, Camp, Issuu and Nasdaq.

EduCounting started out of a desire to use what I’ve learned over the years to remove the stigma around money and show how anyone can learn about finance.

I’m Ben Jones and my story begins in Indiana where I grew up with 5 brothers and one sister. My father came from a farm. We didn’t have much, but what we did have was a mom who insisted we go to school and get one of five degrees that offered certification (MD, JD, CPA, RN, or PE).
