Lockdown log: A tree has fallen

If a trees falls in a forest, and there’s nobody around to hear it, will it make a sound? I am having the most amazing lockdown experience. It just occured to me, that all anybody has is this moment. We paid protection fees to insurance agencies. They were supposed to plan for the worst thing that could happen. Nobody planned for this.

At this time, there is no great lockdown of 1612 to refer to. It has never happened in the history of the world. Everybody everywhere has the freedom to be truly free. When you realise that life boils down to this moment, there really is no point in stressing about how you’re gonna make the rent at the end of this month.

Allow me to postulate, what if you don’t make your rent at the end of the month. But what if you didn’t do anything about it. No stressing. No driving around aimlessly trying to make a quick buck. No dying from covid-19. What if everyone remained in lockdown. Not because Cyril told us to. But because we just couldn’t be bothered to venture outside.

What if

Those who have ears, let them hear. If a tree falls in the forest, and there’s nobody around to hear it, does it make a sound. What if we stopped going to school? I mean, there’s a deadly virus making the rounds. I think this generation of children are the luckiest. For a short while, the world stopped and they were allowed to be what they wanted to be.

Why do I need to send my daughter to school? It’s not safe, for one. That pesky virus again. What is it at school that she cannot learn at home. Why does she need to know about how other people rose to a challenge in their time. Be it maths, history or science. None of these are essential services. Why? Because in the time of a pandemic, err’body needs to stay at home.

I will think the same way tomorrow too, I believe. Right now is all I have. This very moment. I refuse to squander it on petty humanity.
