Swimming and Diving: Ohio finishes strong at the Ohio State Invitational

On Saturday, Ohio ended a three-day competition in Columbus. The team finished each day in 8th place out of 13 teams present.

Thursday concluded the 3 meter event with Sienna Breton winning 16 points with a score of 259.8 and Halli Siwik Ohio winning 3 points with a score of 214.05 in the event.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Ohio had two teams that scored, with the team of McKenzie Grau, Caroline Dunigan, Emma Fortman and Meg Voigt scoring 38 points with a team time of 1:32.56. Ohio’s second team, Maya Conte, Gabrielle Brust, Mollie Brackett and Julia Strine, scored 24 points with a time of 1:35.67.

Ohio had two swimmers who scored in the 200m individual medley, Ami Hornyak, who finished eighth in the A final with a time of 1:59.59, giving the team 25 points. Breast scored four points and placed seventh in the C Finals with a time of 2:02.21.

Ohio once again had two teams to score in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Allison Wardrobe, Hornyak, breast and Dunigan scored 38 points with a time of 3:40.88. Alternate team Fortman, Peyton Farrell, Casi Dibetta and Morgan Brown scored 22 points with a time of 3:47.69.

Day two of the event began with the team ofschrank, hornyak, breast and dunigan finishing 10th in the 200m medley relay, scoring 46 points in 1:40.15. A team consisting of Riley Bunstine, Strine, Farrell and Voigt scored 22 points with a time of 1:43.90.

Breast scored 15 points for the team and finished seventh in the B heat of the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 54.28 for the last swim.

In the 400-yard IM, Morgan Croaning and Gabby McKee swam in the C-heat, scoring three and one point, respectively. Croaning had a finish time of 4:26.75 and McKee had a finish time of 4:29.73.

Hornyak scored 27 points with a time of 1:00.47 in the 100 yard breaststroke and placed 6th overall in that event. Strine and Dibetta scored 7.5 and six points, respectively, and finished back-to-back, with Strine having a finishing time of 1:02.87 and Dibetta having a finishing time of 1:02.91.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of Grau, Lauren Hartel, Fortman and Anna McGrath scored 34 points in 7:28.61. The other team was right behind with a time of 7:33.23 for 32 points. This team consisted of Athena Aravantinou, Madeline Marks, Dunigan and Voigt.

Haertel finished 23rd in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:02.53 and scored 8 points. In the same event, Croaning scored 6 points in 17:03.88.

Dunigan scored 12 points in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.93 and finished 20th.

Hornyak scored 27 points in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.79 and placed 6th overall. Dibetta finished 23rd, gaining eight points with a finishing time of 2:15.88.

In the 400 meter freestyle relay, the team of Fortman, Dunigan, Voigt and Grau finished 15th with a time of 3:23.95 and 36 points. Marks, Conte, McGrath and Aravantinou had a time of 3:31.16 and scored 18 points for the team.

Ohio ended day three in eighth place with a total score of 478.5, with the US Naval Academy in ninth place, just behind Ohio with a score of 419.5 points.
